Description
4 Alban Square is a simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It is two stories high with a three-window front, featuring colourwashed, rendered, and roughcast surfaces, along with rusticated quoins. The building has advanced hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, ridge dressing to No 4, wide boarded eaves, and a total of eight rendered and one rubble chimney stacks.
The sash windows, which include glazing bars, are present except for those on the first floors of Nos 3 to 5, some of which have lugged architraves and ornamental keystones. No 1 features a full-width shop front supported by faceted pilasters, with a segmental arched window recess and a bay shop front flanking the entrance to No 2. Nos 3 and 4 also have bay shop fronts, while Nos 5, 6, and 7 have segmental arched window recesses, although the latter is partially concealed. No 8 has a modern shop front. The entrances are recessed, with half-glazed and panelled doors.
The left end wall of No 1 is plain roughcast and includes a cross range to the rear. The right end wall of No 8 has plain scribed render and features a hipped roof extension.
