Description
5 Alban Square is a simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It is two stories high with three windows and features a colourwashed, rendered, and roughcast front with rusticated quoins. The building has advanced and hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, ridge dressing to No 4, wide boarded eaves, and a total of eight rendered and one rubble chimney stacks. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are present on the first floors, except for Nos 3 to 5, with some windows featuring lugged architraves and ornamental keystones.
No 1 has a full-width shop front supported by faceted pilasters, a segmental arched window recess, and a bay shop front flanking the entrance to No 2. Nos 3 and 4 also have bay shop fronts, while Nos 5, 6, and 7 feature segmental arched window recesses, with the latter partially concealed. No 8 has a modern shop front. The entrances are recessed, with half-glazed and panelled doors.
The left end wall of No 1 is plain roughcast and includes a cross range to the rear. The right end wall of No 8 is finished with plain scribed render and has a hipped roof extension.
