Description
8 Alban Square is a simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It is two stories high with a three-window facade that is colourwashed, rendered, and roughcast, featuring rusticated quoins. The building has advanced hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, and ridge dressing to No 4. It also has wide boarded eaves and a total of eight rendered and one rubble chimney stacks.
The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are present on the first floors, except for Nos 3 to 5. Some of these windows feature lugged architraves and ornamental keystones. No 1 has a full-width shop front supported by faceted pilasters, a segmental arched window recess, and a bay shop front beside the entrance to No 2. Nos 3 and 4 also have bay shop fronts, while Nos 5, 6, and 7 have segmental arched window recesses, with the latter partially concealed. No 8 has a modern shop front. The entrances are recessed, with half-glazed and panelled doors.
The left end wall of No 1 is plain roughcast and has a cross range extending to the rear, while the right end wall of No 8 is finished in plain scribed render and features a hipped roof extension.
