Description
2 North Road is a simple classical building from the 19th century, featuring roughcast and scribed rendered walls. It stands two stories high with three-window fronts and rusticated quoins. The building has advanced hipped roof end pavilions, slate roofs, wide boarded eaves, and seven cement render chimney stacks. The windows include 12-pane sash windows, while Nos 1 and 5 have 16-pane windows on the ground floor. The first-floor windows are adorned with lugged architraves, and the ground floor windows are set in segmental arched recesses, each with ornamental keystones. Notably, the ground floor left window of No 6 (Talbot House Hair Fashions) does not have glazing bars, while the shop front to the right is occupied by Coco.
The entrances feature an open pedimented doorcase for Nos 1 and 6, with a flagpole on No 1. Arched entrances with architraves and keystones are present at Nos 2 and 5. The doors vary, with No 1 having a recessed 6-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight, No 2 featuring a later door, No 3 with a 3-panel door and 5-pane fanlight, No 4 with an 8-panel door, No 5 with a 6-panel door, and No 6 having an 8-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight and panelled reveals, along with a further 4-panel door to the right.
The left side of No 1 is scribed rendered and includes two sash windows, while the rear extensions are not of special interest. The right side of No 6 is roughcast and also has two sash windows. The interior of No 1 has been converted into offices.
