Description
The Royal Oak Public House, formerly a brewery, is a simple classical building dating from the 18th century. It features a two-storey front with rendered surfaces. The front of No 31 has scribed render with end pilaster strips. The roofs are slate, hipped at the corner, and there are wide boarded eaves along with a cement render chimney stack.
No 30 has three windows, while No 31 has two windows, both located only on the first floor. The windows have small-pane sash glazing, with the bars removed from the lower sashes of the ground floor windows of No 30. No 31 has lugged architraves and ornamental keystones. The central entrance to No 30 is arched and features a recessed six-panel door with a six-pane fanlight above it. No 31 has an arched entrance with a half-glazed door. A large public house sign is prominently displayed.
The Darkgate Street side has cement render and similar sash windows.
