Description
The Midland Bank, which includes No. 9 Alban Square, is a simple classical building dating from the 19th century. It features a two-storey facade with three windows, made of scribed render. The front has end pilaster strips and a plinth, creating an advanced hipped roof end pavilion on the side of North Road and the northeast side of Alban Square. The roof is slate with wide boarded eaves.
The first floor has 12-pane sash windows, while the ground floor has 16-pane sash windows, all adorned with lugged architraves and ornamental keystones. The entrance features a tall, narrow open-pedimented doorcase with timber columns on high bases, leading to an arched entrance with a seven-panel door.
The elevation facing Alban Square is similar, but the former entrance has been blocked by a semicircular-headed sash window that has glazing bars curved at the top.
