Description
26 North Road is a group of simple, classical-style terraced buildings dating to the 18th century. The facades are roughcast, with a cement and scribed render finish. Number 29 is distinguished by its hipped roof and projecting pavilion form. The buildings are two storeys high and feature three windows each, though number 29 is slightly advanced. Rusticated quoins, cill bands, and plinths add visual interest. Slate roofs have wide, boarded eaves, and the buildings are topped with rendered chimney stacks. The first floor windows are 12-pane sashes, while the ground floor windows have 16 panes, except for number 26, which features splayed bays with sash glazing. Lugged architraves and moulded keystones surround the windows, although number 25 has voussoir lintels instead. Flat-headed entrances are found at numbers 24 and 25; number 24 has a panelled architrave, while number 25 has a doorcase. Numbers 26-29 have arched entrances, surrounded by panelled architraves (with the exception of number 29), and featuring ornamental keystones. The recessed entrances contain modern doors at number 24, an 8-panel door at number 25, 6-panel doors with fanlights at numbers 26-28, and a 3-panel door with a 6-pane fanlight at number 29. Iron railings run along the front of number 29, leading down to the basement entrance. A single 2-light sash window is located on the end wall facing Darkgate Street.
