Description
8 North Road is a simple classical building dating from the 18th century. It is a two-storey structure with three window fronts, where No 7 is slightly advanced and forms a hipped roof end pavilion. The fronts of Nos 7 and 8 are roughcast, featuring scribed render on the ground floor and roughcast on the first floor of No 9. There are end pilaster strips, which are lugged on Nos 8 and 9, along with plinths, a cill band on No 7, and an eaves band on No 9. The roofs are slate, with rendered and brick chimney stacks and boarded eaves.
The windows are primarily 12-pane sashes, except for the ground floor of No 7, which has later 3-light sash windows. No 7 has plain architraves, while Nos 8 and 9 feature lugged architraves with ornamental keystones. The entrance to No 7 has a pedimented doorcase, No 8 has a flat-headed entrance with a bracketed hood and architrave, and No 9 has an arched entrance with an architrave and keystone. The doors are recessed, with No 7 and No 8 having 6-panel doors and an ornate semicircular fanlight with intersecting glazing bars above No 7's door. No 9 has an 8-panel door with a 5-pane fanlight.
The left end wall of No 7 is roughcast and includes a 12-pane sash window towards the front, with a cross range extending to the rear. The right end wall is also roughcast and features a lower two-storey scribed render lean-to at the rear.
