Description
The Old Stables is a former stable block that has been converted into offices. It is constructed from blue lias rubble and has a square plan with a hipped slate roof. The building is two storeys high, with the main block set back and a low single storey and attic wing to the northeast that extends to the street line.
On the upper floor, there are windows located in the centre and to the right, featuring cambered red brick heads. The centre window is a 16-pane sash, while the right window is a longer 16-pane fixed light, both with slate sills. The ground floor includes a wing on the left, a centre 16-pane sash with a glazed sidelight next to it, both set under an iron lintel. A cambered red brick head remains above the sash window only, indicating a later insertion. To the right, there is a door with a brick head, a modern stable door, and an overlight.
The wing has a gable end facing the street, which features an arched loft window with a brick arch, slate sill, and a radiating-bar fixed light. Below this, there is a ground floor entry with a timber lintel and folding doors leading to the carriage entry.
Inside, the former stable retains timber posts that support a three-bay arcade, which once fronted the stalls, and the rear wall has hollows for hayracks.
