Description
The Black Lion Hotel is a two-storey building constructed from squared green-grey dolerite, featuring a slate eaves roof and stone end stacks that are corniced in slate. The front has five windows and may have been remodeled from an earlier structure, as the right two windows are spaced more closely together and there is some differing stonework in the lower corners. The eaves are supported by paired brackets. The windows are round arched with stone voussoirs, slate sills, and casement-pair glazing that includes fixed Y-tracery fanlights. The central entrance consists of a half-glazed door topped by a Y-tracery fanlight, set within a porch supported by four timber octagonal posts that have a simple corniced flat top, with glazed panels between the post heads. On the right end wall, there is a 12-pane sash window on the first floor with a brick head. The rear features 12-pane sashes on the right and an added extension on the left.
