Description
Powis Castle Lodge is a building dated 1932, as indicated on the rainwater heads. It is constructed of random rubble with freestone dressings and features a graded slate roof with an axial stack. The lodge is designed in a Neo-Jacobean vernacular style and consists of one and a half storeys, with a near-symmetrical layout. The central full-height porch has a steep coped gable and a 4-centred arched entrance that includes a battened wood doorway. Above the outer archway, the Powis arms are depicted in painted low-relief, and there is a 2-light mullioned window above with arched headed lights. The flanking stone mullioned windows consist of 3 and 4 lights, while the return elevations each feature paired 2-light mullioned windows in the upper storey. This lodge is noted as a good example of a small neo-vernacular cottage and is part of a group with the entrance gates to Powis Castle Park.
