Description
14 High Street is a pair of town houses built around 1820. The buildings are constructed of brick and feature slate roofs with an axial stack positioned towards the front of the roof slope. Although designed as a pair, they have an unusual layout, with the entrance to No 15 located on the side facing Chelsea Lane. This design allows for a symmetrical appearance on the main elevation facing High Street. The central doorway for No 14 is accessed by steps and features a six-panelled door with a radial fanlight set within a reeded architrave. The flanking windows are 16-pane sash windows, with 8-pane windows in the attic storey, all having flat arched brick heads. The return elevation to Chelsea Lane has an identically detailed entrance positioned towards the rear. This pair of early 19th-century town houses is notable for its unique planning adapted to a corner site and for retaining much of its original detail.
