Description

Clive Place was built around 1820 as part of a small residential development commissioned by the Powis Estate. The house is constructed of brick, with a rear wall of rubble, and has a slate roof with overhanging eaves and gable end stacks. It is three storeys high, with a three-window front and a central entrance. The front door is a four-panelled design with an overlight, set within an architrave featuring an entablature hood supported by console brackets. The windows are 12-pane sashes, with brick arches. A mid-19th century extension was added to the left side, with an outer doorway and a single window on each of its two floors. A two-storey rubble wing extends to the rear. Clive Place is a good example of an early 19th century town house, retaining much of its original character, and contributing to a notable group of similar houses at numbers 2-4 Clive Place.
