Description

Welshpool Town Lock is a lock on the Montgomeryshire Canal, built between 1794 and 1797 by engineers John and Thomas Dadford. The lock features blue brick lining in the lock chamber, with stone dressings. It has similar brickwork and stone copings on the lower retaining wall of the platform on the west side. At the lower end of the lock, there is a plank footbridge with plain wrought iron railings. This lock is an important part of the original engineering work of the Montgomeryshire Canal and is included in a group of canal structures at Welshpool town wharf. The gates were last renewed in 1973.
