Cottage 1 (Canal Agent Office)

This building is a canal office known as Cottage 1, dating from the 19th century. It is a single bay, two-storey structure with a door located to the left. The exterior is constructed of red brick, featuring brick heads above the ground floor openings, while the first floor window is positioned directly under the eaves. The building has a dentil eaves cornice and a brick stack on the right gable. The roof is slate, and there are stone cills along with small pane, 12-light horizontal sliding sash windows. The entrance includes a four-panel door with a tripartite overlight, and there is a painted sign on the gable that reads ‘CANAL AGENT OFFICE’.

Inside, there is a single room on each floor. The ground floor features a narrow hall with a direct flight of stairs leading to the first floor. The ground floor 'office' has a stable door, a later Ruabon quarry tile floor, a cast iron fireplace, and a boarded stair partition. The first floor includes a plank door and a boarded screen, a cupboard enclosure with a plank door above the stair, an original fireplace and surround, and a built-in recess cupboard to the left.
