Description
The Rochdale Canal Company Office is an office building from the early 19th century that has undergone alterations. It features scored render on the front and roughcast on brick, topped with a slate roof that has been felted. The building has a rectangular double-depth plan and is two stories high with a three-window facade that is nearly symmetrical. The central doorway has pilaster jambs and large double consoles supporting a cornice that is lettered "ROCHDALE CANAL Co." It includes a panelled door and a rectangular overlight. The ground floor has two 4-pane sashed windows, while the upper floor has three sashed windows, arranged symmetrically, except for the one on the left at ground floor, which is close to the door. There are ridge and gable chimneys, both of which have been cut down. The right-hand gable wall has one sashed window on each floor but is mostly covered by an attached entrance archway leading to the canal terminus. At the rear, there is a central round-headed doorway with an altered door and a fanlight featuring radiating glazing bars, an 8-pane stair window above the door, tripartite sashed windows at ground floor, a 4-pane sash window to the left on the first floor, and an altered window to the right. This building is included for its group value.
