Description
64 and 66 Dale Street is a shipping warehouse, now used as clothing wholesalers' premises, dating from the mid to late 19th century and altered over time. The building is constructed of red brick in Flemish bond with sandstone dressings and features a slate roof. It has a rectangular plan that runs parallel to the street, with a shallow rear addition and an internal loading bay accessed from the front. The structure has a basement and four storeys, displaying a 12-window facade (four for No. 66 and eight for No. 64).
All floors have sill-bands, and there is a corbel-table at the cornice. The ground floor includes a rectangular loading entrance beneath the fifth and sixth windows, framed by cast iron (with a modern roller-blind door). The other openings feature recessed reveals, with round-headed windows at the ground floor, including slightly taller doorways with keystones at the left end and to the right of the loading entrance. The windows have altered glazing, with one modified as a doorway. The upper floors consist of segmental-headed sash windows.
The right-hand return wall has segmental-headed windows on all floors, including three at the ground floor with damaged jambs, and there is a three-storey, three-window addition at the rear. Inside, there are three rows of cast-iron columns and wooden beams, with the internal loading bay featuring a full-height loading slot on each side. The left side (No. 66) has a massive wall-crane, while the other side is filled with inserted heating ducts. This building is likely one of the earliest warehouses on this street.
