Description

Eleska House is a clothing warehouse, now used as wholesalers' premises and offices, likely built in the early 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick in English garden wall bond, featuring a sandstone plinth and dressings, with the roof concealed. It has a rectangular plan situated on a corner site, with a chamfered corner and a loading bay at the rear. The structure consists of a basement, three storeys, and an attic, with three bays, the first of which is canted back.

The facade includes two plus three plus two windows, with sandstone bands at the sills and heads, a brick cornice, and a parapet over the attic. The canted corner features a round-headed doorway with stone imposts and a cavetto-moulded head with a keystone, a panelled door, and a lettered fanlight. Above this doorway, there are two narrow sashed windows on the second and third floors. The front of the building has tall basement windows and narrow sashes at the ground, first, and second floors, all grouped in threes and twos. The attic level has smaller sashes grouped four and three. The first and second-floor windows are slightly set back in their bays, with the second-floor windows featuring brick corbelling to segmental heads and linked hoodmoulds.

The left side wall has five windows, mostly set in full-height slots, and includes large attached fire escapes. There is also a two-storey rear extension that contains the loading bay, which is shared with 3 China Lane at the rear. The interior has not been inspected. Eleska House is attached to the left side of No. 56 and is included for its group value.
