Description
The Grove is a mid-19th century, two-storey detached house. To the left, there is a lower two-storey service range, and to the right, a single-storey wash-house. The building features coursed rubble blocks with a low plinth, slate roofs, boxed eaves, and two brick end stacks. The central entrance on the south (garden) front has a part-glazed door with a plain doorcase, pediment, and over-light. The ground-floor windows, which are of later date, are canted bays with fine margin-glazing. The first-floor windows consist of twelve-pane sashes set beneath flat voussoir lintels. The rear elevation displays a variety of windows, including some original three-light iron-framed casements under similar flat lintels, as well as a tall round-headed stair-light with fan tracery. A richly moulded six-panel door in the rear wall has been re-used from another location. The roof lights and dormers are modern additions.
Inside, the staircase features curtail steps, a scroll newel, a ramped rounded handrail, and stick balusters. There are also some six-panel doors present.
