Description
The Great House is a two-storey building from the 18th century, featuring a combination of rubble stone and brick with slate roofs. It has an L-shaped main range, with a hipped roof on the front portion and a gabled roof with an unequal slope on the rear wing. To the left, there is a service wing of lower height that is likely contemporary to the main structure. A continuous stone plinth runs along the front elevation, and there is a narrow lean-to extension at the back of the service wing. The brick upper sections of the stone stacks have been rebuilt, and the northwest side stack projects.
The front of the house has three windows, with wider ground floor openings set under flat brick arches. These openings contain replacement small-pane sash windows from the mid-1980s, with brick cills. The remaining windows have a random arrangement of timber casements, some from the 19th century, featuring iron frames, small panes, and original fittings. A central, wide, enclosed porch made of brick and timber from the early 19th century has decorative bargeboards, while the front door consists of six panels. The rear has boarded doors, including a first-floor door on the gable end of the service wing that previously provided access to the servants' quarters and woolstore.
Some original features are still present. The right-hand room contains a six-panel, raised and fielded door, dado panelling, and a niche alcove above cupboard doors with H-hinges. The passageway leading to the rear wing is framed by an ornate panelled arch and fluted pilasters. First-floor doors have two panels and H/L hinges.
