Description

Dolassey Farm features a two-storey L-plan range of outbuildings, primarily used as cowhouses. These structures are built from coursed irregular rock-faced masonry, accented with mostly blue brick dressings, and topped with slate roofs and corrugated metal on the rear pitch. The deep verges are supported by scroll brackets. The fold yard elevations consist of 14 bays, each with full-height partly-boarded openings, including a wider entry bay with double doors. The ground floor is infilled with vertical boards over timber rails, while the loft is finished with weatherboarding.

The northern elevation is particularly striking due to the sloping ground, while the eastern elevation of the granary is fronted in stone. Narrow ventilation slits and pitching doors are present on the rear and gable elevations. The door and window openings feature cambered heads made of chequered brickwork. The upper gable end of a short returned range on the eastern side of the yard is clad in corrugated material, with the main structure made of coursed rubble blocks and brick dressings.

Inside the cowhouses, there are approximately 45 stalls created with wooden posts and rails, and a feeding passage runs along the rear. The ceilings are supported by sawn beams and joists, remaining largely unaltered except for the eastern end bays, which have breeze block partitions. The first-floor storage lofts are equipped with plain wooden 19th-century king-post trusses. Additionally, the two-storey wing includes bull-pen and loose-boxes on the ground floor, with a granary above that is accessible via brick external steps.
