Description

The Monument to Sir George Cornewall Lewis is a 21-meter high structure built in an extravagant Gothic style, reminiscent of the Ruskinian manner and the Eleanor Crosses. The octagonal stem of the monument rises from a stepped platform and is adorned with numerous niches, gabled at the lower stage. These niches contain statues representing Fortitude, Prudence, and other virtues. The monument features weathered marble colonnettes, a band of glazed tiles at the base, and an openwork spire at the top.
