Description
Ty-Gwyn is a two-storey building with an attic, constructed from random stone rubble on a plinth, featuring some roughly dressed quoins and a slate roof with raised gable ends. The left gable has a projecting stone stack with a brick upper, while the right gable has a flush stack also with a brick upper. The front has three windows, all modern casements. On the ground floor, there are three-light windows under flat brick heads, with a raised arch in the centre. The first floor features windows with brick cambered heads, and there are three slate-hung roof dormers. The central front door is set at plinth level and accessed by three curved stone steps; it is a part-glazed, plank door beneath a flat cement canopy supported by wooden carved brackets.
The rear elevation includes a tall, thin two-storey stair light and a plank door under a pitched slate canopy on carved brackets. There is an early sash window to the right with thick glazing bars.
To the right of the main house is a small two-storey block made of rubble, topped with a slate roof and a brick gable stack. This block has a rebuilt and rendered front wall with modern glazing and a plank door, which may indicate it is an older cottage or possibly an early 19th-century wash-house and bakehouse with servants' accommodation above.
The interior of Ty-Gwyn remains relatively unaltered, featuring a large staircase hall, a parlour, and a kitchen, all with exposed beams and joists. The kitchen includes a large open fireplace with a stop-chamfered timber lintel, and there is also a section of re-set 17th-century square panelling with a carved frieze.
