Description
The farm ranges to the east of Ty-Gwyn Farmhouse consist of a combination barn, cowsheds, and pigstys, all contributing to the agricultural setting. The combination barn, dating from the 18th century, is built of rubble stone on a plinth with raised gable ends and an iron roof. It features four bays with large opposing openings leading to a threshing bay. The two bays situated down the slope include cattle sheds below a storage loft, which has slit ventilators, three plank doors, and a modern window under a timber lintel. There is also a pitching opening and slit ventilators on the west gable end.
Inside the threshing bay, there is a modern brick partition on the right, while the other bay is divided by studs and planks over low stone walls. The roof trusses are constructed with a tie beam and two diagonal braces, all featuring pegged joints, and the purlins are chamfered and stopped.
The cowsheds, built in the 19th century, are located on the north side of the foldyard. They are made of rubble stone with brick dressings and have a slate roof. The structure has two storeys, with three plank doors and three windows featuring cambered heads, the lower halves of which have vertical timber slats. There is a plank pitching door to the left of centre and slit ventilators to the right of centre, along with brick and concrete steps leading to a loft door on the left gable end. The right-hand bays include a rear feeding passage, while the left bay contains a loose box, with brick managers and bolted king-post roof trusses.
The pigstys, also from the 19th century, are situated on the north side of the foldyard. They are constructed of rubble stone with brick dressings and a brick front, topped with a slate roof and featuring two storeys. Access to the loft is provided by adjoining cowhouse loft steps. The sty doorways have cambered heads, and the courts are enclosed with part brick and part stone walls, finished with brick floors.
