Description
The farm ranges to the east of Ty-Gwyn farmhouse consist of a combination barn and associated structures, dating from the 18th century and 19th century. The combination barn forms the southern side of the foldyard and is constructed of rubble stone on a plinth, with raised gable ends and an iron roof. It features four bays with large opposing openings leading to the threshing bay. The two bays positioned down the slope contain cattle sheds beneath a storage loft, which has slit ventilators, three plank doors, and a modern window beneath a timber lintel. There is also a pitching opening and slit ventilators on the west gable end.
Inside the threshing bay, there is a modern brick partition on the right, while the partitions in the other bay are made of studs and planks over low stone walls. The roof is supported by trusses with a tie beam and two diagonal braces, all featuring pegged joints, and the purlins are chamfered and stopped.
On the north side of the foldyard are the cowsheds, built in the 19th century from rubble stone with brick dressings and a slate roof. These two-storey structures have three plank doors and three windows with cambered heads, where the lower halves of the windows are fitted with vertical timber slats. A plank pitching door is located to the left of centre, with slit ventilators to the right of centre. There are brick and concrete steps leading to the loft door on the left gable end. The rear feeding passage is located in the right-hand bays, with a loose box in the left bay and brick managers, supported by bolted king-post roof trusses.
Also on the north side of the foldyard are the pigstys, which date from the 19th century and are built of rubble stone with brick dressings and a brick front, topped with a slate roof. These two-storey structures have a door to the loft that is accessed via adjoining cowhouse loft steps. The sty doorways have cambered heads, and the walls of the courts are part brick and part stone, with brick floors.
