Description

Garth Cottage is a Grade II listed building consisting of three blocks, with the left-hand block dating from the late 19th century. It is constructed of rubble stone with a yellow brick front and features a slate roof and a yellow brick end stack. The ground floor has a wide cross window with small panes and a single opening light, while the first floor contains two small-pane casements with beaded mullion frames.

The central block, dating from the late 18th century, is also made of rubble stone and has a slate roof. It features a heavy battened plank door with strap hinges set on gudgeon pins, which is set under a stone arch head. There is a left-hand ground floor casement window, also under a stone arch head, and two small casements under the eaves with replacement large panes.

The left-hand room of the central block has a large open fireplace with a rough chamfered lintel, large exposed beams with a small chamfer, and exposed joists.

The right-hand block is from the 19th century and is likely a former outhouse that has been rebuilt as a dwelling. It has a stone rubble base with walls raised in yellow brick. The ground floor features a large modern window that has been inserted in a former doorway, while the first floor has small-pane metal casements in chamfered wood frames.
