Description
1 Marian Road is a Grade II listed building featuring coursed rubble masonry and a moderately pitched quarry slate roof with plain eaves and close verges. It has a central stone stack and water tabling.
On the first floor, there are two 16-pane sash windows set under the eaves. The ground floor to the left showcases a well-preserved early 19th-century shopfront, which includes a pulvinated fascia with a drip board on sunk panelled pilasters. The shopfront has an inset 24-pane shop window with a rendered stallriser and a 6-flush panelled split door to the left. There is also a small service-room window in the center of the elevation, featuring a deep stone lintel and a 4-pane fixed light.
The house entrance is located at the extreme right, marked by a stone lintel and a shallow rectangular fanlight above a 4-flush panelled door. Adjacent to this entrance is a large window with a deep stone lintel, which contains a 6 vertical-pane sash window, although the horizontal glazing bars have been removed.
Inside, the left-hand gable end wall displays stonework, and there is a casement attic window at the apex along with a small first-floor window to the left, both featuring stone lintels. The ground floor has a 16-pane sash window with a later inserted lintel. There are also traces of earlier masonry, including blocked openings, visible on the right side.
