Description
The building known as the Shippon, a former barn at Sandy Lane Farm, is a brick-fronted farm structure dating from the 18th century, topped with a slate roof. It features split doors with strap hinges located to the right and left of the center, both set beneath blue-brick segmental heads. These doors are flanked by steel-framed hopper windows that sit under wooden lintels, with the right-hand window originally being a doorway. There are gabled dormers at the center and to the right, both equipped with shutters.
The left gable end is timber-framed and clad with weatherboards, featuring a loft doorway, though it is in poor condition. An inserted door is present on the right side of this gable. Attached to the right gable end is a lean-to, which has a weatherboarded gable above it. The rear of the building is also timber-framed but similarly in poor condition. To the left of center, there are signs of a former wagon bay, including a mortise that indicates where a porch canopy once existed.
Inside, the older section of the building retains two queen-post trusses, while another queen-post truss has been reconstructed. A fourth truss is made of sawn timber.
