Description

Lane Farmhouse is a Georgian 2½ storey, 5-bay house built of hand-moulded brick, topped with a concrete-tile roof featuring dentil eaves and brick end stacks with moulded caps. The symmetrical front displays a plat band between the storeys. The central boarded door is topped by a 2-pane overlight beneath a segmental head. The windows are segmental-headed small-pane cross windows set in wooden frames. To the right of the entrance, there is a 19th-century small-pane iron-frame basement window. The left gable end has roughcast on the lower storey, indicating a former lean-to, and features a replacement attic window on the right side. The right gable end also has a replacement attic window on the left side.

At the rear, a narrower and lower parallel wing, also of brick, has a slate roof with dentil eaves. The rear elevation includes a central gable, replacement casement windows in earlier openings, and double half-glazed doors in a former window opening. The right end of this wing is later, constructed of a different colour brick, and projects beyond the gable end of the main range. Its entrance, located on the north side, features a segmental-headed boarded door, with a replacement 2-light casement window under a segmental head in each storey to the left of the door.

The main range is centrally planned with a stair hall. The kitchen on the left features a chamfered spine beam with run-out stops and a fireplace with a large timber lintel. The parlour on the right side boasts a finely moulded cross beam. The full-height open-well stair has turned balusters and a square newel, with brick cellar steps beneath it. In the upper storey, the rooms on the right and left have chamfered cross beams, and in the left-hand room, part of the rear wall shows exposed box framing. The two roof trusses date from the late 19th century, featuring queen posts, collar beams, and iron bolts. The rear wing includes a closed-string service stair.
