Description
The Bryn is an early 17th century farmhouse with an earlier section to the east. It is a two-storey timber-framed building that features a black and white painted exterior. The eastern portion has brick facing and additional brick walls, but retains a timber-framed gabled end with a coved cant below the gable and very massive timbers. The roof is covered with old slate.
Inside, the farmhouse has stopped bevelled beams and cross-beams. There are wide boarded doors with old strap hinges on lugs, and one door features two fielded panels with cast H hinges and straps. The eastern section, dating from the 18th century, includes a five-panel entrance door and a staircase with turned balusters on a closed string. The doorways at the ground and first floors, as well as in the attic, have obtuse angled heads. The first floor also has wide boarded doors. The attic features cusped braces connecting the trusses to the purlins and ridge over four bays.
The Bryn was formerly the residence of Lloyd, a squire and farmer, and is surrounded by a wet moat. The building is in good condition.
