Description
Lower House is a 2-storey, 3-window house made of brick with a slate roof. It features brick stacks positioned to the left of the center and at the right end. The entrance, located to the right of center, has a half-glazed door. The windows are 3-light casements with segmental heads on the lower storey and positioned below the eaves on the upper storey. The middle windows are slightly offset to the left of center. A vertical joint to the right of the entrance indicates that the right-hand unit was added later, although it is contemporary with the current upper storey. The bricks used for the upper storey are of a slightly different color than the original bricks, with a header course marking the upper extent at sill level. The windows on the right-hand end do not align between the storeys. Additionally, there is another vertical joint set back from the left-hand end, suggesting that the house was extended slightly at this end.
On the left gable end, there is a casement window under a wooden lintel. To the left of this window, set back from the front, is a lean-to with a boarded door in the end wall. The lean-to has renewed windows and extends across the rear wing, which features an open porch supported by a single thin steel post, leading to the back door. The rear wing has a higher eaves line than the main range and includes a continuous outshut aligned with the left gable end of the main house, which has an inserted window. The opposite side wall of the rear wing contains segmental 3-light windows on each storey, along with a small inserted window in the upper left. At the junction of the main range and the wing, there is an inserted 3-light window below the eaves.
The house has a 3-unit plan. Upon entering, you find yourself in the central kitchen, which features a cross beam and a fireplace with a timber lintel. To the right side of the kitchen is a closed-string staircase.
