Description
Sandy Lane Farmhouse is a 2-storey, 3-window house built of hand-moulded brick, featuring a slate roof and brick stacks at the left end and to the right of the center. There is a panel door, offset to the right of center, which is sheltered by a gabled canopy. The windows on the lower storey have segmental heads, while those on the upper storey have flat arches. The windows are 3-light casements that were inserted in the late 19th century or early 20th century into the original openings, but with added sills. The central windows are slightly offset to the left. Above the entrance and beneath the eaves, there is a Sun insurance badge.
To the right, the ground level is lower, and within the brick plinth of the gable end, there are two small barred basement openings. Above this, the box-framed gable end of an earlier house is visible, featuring brick nogging and a steeper original roof. Further to the right and set back is a 1-storey lean-to against the lower 2-storey rear wing. This lean-to has a half-glazed door flanked by 2-light windows, along with a boarded door and an inserted window in its end wall. The main rear wing has two 2-light casements in the upper storey of its gable end, above an added lean-to with a boarded door in the end wall. On the right side of the wing is another lean-to with a boarded door, and above the eaves level of the wing, there is an inserted window in the main range. The left gable end of the house features a narrow segmental-headed window. Not inspected.
