Description
Glyndyfrdwy West Signal Box, formerly known as Barmouth South Signal Box, is a 2-storey Dutton & Co Type 1 signal box. It features a red brick ground floor and a glazed upper section, with dark brick detailing. The nameplate "Barmouth South" remains attached to the south elevation facing the railway line. The building has a slate roof with overhanging eaves and weatherboarded gables. The gable ends have bargeboards with scalloped decoration and spear-head finials. The upper floor has wrap-around glazing in 6-pane sections, while the ground floor facing the railway line has twin segmental brick arches with window bars but no glazing. Originally, there was a cantilevered forestair with a timber rail on the east gable leading to a recessed, weatherboarded porch, which was originally roofed and detailed similarly. The stairway, porch finial, front of the porch, and outer door are now missing.
