Description
Benar Barn is a 19th-century agricultural building constructed with coursed local flat rubble slabs on the gable ends and random rubble on the long sides, set on a plinth. It features a modern slate roof. The front elevation includes a camber-headed doorway with blue brick dressings, and there are camber-headed windows on the ground floor, which are 19th-century in their current form. Above these windows, there are openings to a former loft set at the eaves, also adorned with blue brick dressings and small pane agricultural-type glazing, along with vents below. The gable end facing the house has a loft doorway with a simple stone lintel, while the opposite gable end has a loft doorway or window that is obscured by a 19th-century extension. The building has been extended to the northeast as a single-storey outbuilding, constructed in local rubble with a slate roof, featuring a square-headed doorway and a square agricultural-type small-pane window to the right.
Inside the barn, there are massive stop-chamfered hewn beams, and it was formerly completely lofted, with a few stop-chamfered joists still remaining. Much of the old roof structure is intact.
