Description
16-18 Sandgate in Ayr is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic tenement building featuring commercial premises on the ground floor. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar and includes a shopfront cornice, a cornice, and a blocking course.
On the southeast elevation, there are entrances on the outer left and right. The left entrance has a glazed timber door with a sidelight and a letterbox fanlight, while the right entrance features a two-leaf glazed timber door with a louvred letterbox fanlight. A shop window is located between the two entrances. The first and second floors have regular fenestration, and there are single piended dormers on the outer right and left sides of the attic.
The ground floor has a shop window, and the upper floors are fitted with plate glass timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and features stone skews, coped gablehead stacks, and circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
