Description
44-46 Newmarket Street in Ayr is an earlier 19th-century, two-storey and attic, three-bay tenement that includes a shop on the ground floor. The building is constructed of painted ashlar and features a base course, a cill course for the first-floor windows, a cornice, and a blocking course. The first-floor windows are framed with architraves.
On the southwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a central recessed entrance leading to the shopfront on the right, featuring a glazed timber door with a letterbox fanlight. To the left, there is a shouldered surround leading to another recessed entrance with a timber door and a three-light letterbox fanlight. The first floor has a regular arrangement of windows, and there is a central piended dormer in the attic.
The first-floor windows are made of plate glass and are timber sash and case style, while the dormer has a 16-pane window. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are coped stacks with circular cans. The interior was not seen in 1998.
