Description
15 and 17 Sandgate in Ayr is an early 19th-century, three-storey, three-bay tenement building that includes commercial premises on the ground floor. The building is painted and features a mutuled shopfront cornice, cill courses on the upper floors, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows have architrave surrounds, with the first-floor windows being corniced. The ground floor is delineated by pilasters that mark the bays.
On the northwest (entrance) elevation, there are entrances at the outer right and left. The outer left entrance has a timber door with a letterbox fanlight, while the outer right features a recessed glazed timber door with a narrow letterbox fanlight. The central area has a shop window and a deep shopfront fascia above. The upper floors have regular fenestration.
The upper floors are fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a rooflight, stone skews, and abbreviated gablehead stacks. The interior was not seen in 1998.
