Description
71 Newmarket Street in Ayr is a mid-19th century building that serves as a single and two-storey, two-bay shop. The shopfront features a timber fascia, while the first floor is constructed of ashlar. Notable architectural details include a modillion cornice, rusticated quoins, and shouldered architraves on the first floor.
The northeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, has a tiled floor leading to the central shop entrance at ground level. This entrance is framed by a glazed timber door and flanked by shop windows. To the outer left, there are two-leaf timber doors topped with a square-grid fanlight, and to the right, there is a single window on the first floor.
The first-floor window is a 4-pane timber sash and case style. The roof was not visible during the last inspection in 1998, and the interior was also not seen at that time.
