Description
21-25 Sandgate in Ayr is an early 19th-century, three-storey and attic tenement building featuring four bays and commercial premises on the ground floor. The building is painted and has timber fascias for the shopfronts, a mutule shopfront cornice, a cill course at the first floor, an eaves course, a cornice, and a blocking course. The windows on the first and second floors have architraves and cill blocks, with cornices above the first-floor windows.
The northwest (entrance) elevation includes two shops at the center, with entrances on the right for both. There are glazed timber doors and multi-paned letterbox fanlights above the shop windows on the left. To the outer right, there is a timber door with a multi-paned letterbox fanlight, and to the outer left, an iron gate leads to a close entrance, also with a multi-paned letterbox fanlight. The first and second floors have regular fenestration, while the attic features two segmental-arched dormers on the outer right and left.
The shop windows on the ground floor have multi-paned upper sections, and the first and second floors are fitted with 12-pane timber sash and case windows, with 4-pane windows in the attic. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there is a stone skew to the left along with truncated gablehead stacks. The interior was not seen in 1998.
