Description
13 Sandgate in Ayr is a classical tenement building constructed by Thomas O'Beirne between 1929 and 1930. It is three storeys high and features three bays, with commercial premises located on the ground floor. The building is made of ashlar stone and has a corniced shopfront on the ground floor, along with a cornice and a blocking course. The first and second floors have projecting cills and moulded surrounds around the windows, with cornices present only above the first-floor windows.
On the northwest elevation, which serves as the entrance, there are two recessed glazed timber doors on the outer right, accompanied by multi-paned letterbox fanlights. Pilasters frame the shop window on the outer left, with a fascia above. The upper floors have regular fenestration, featuring bipartite central windows.
The ground floor has shop windows, while the upper floors are fitted with six-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a rooflight, as well as mutual coped stacks shared with adjacent buildings, and circular cans on the left side.
The interior was not seen in 1998.
