Alloway Mill Cottage, Greenfield Avenue, Ayr

Alloway Mill Cottage is an early 19th century, single storey, L-plan cottage located next to Alloway Mill. The exterior is finished in painted harled rubble with painted margins around the openings.

On the east elevation, there is a glazed timber door leading to a porch at the re-entrant angle, with a single window to the right. This is followed by two single windows and a bipartite window in a recessed bay, and another single window to the right of the gabled bay.

The west elevation features two single windows in a recessed section on the outer left, a blank gable to the left, a single window in a larger adjacent gable, a glazed timber door to the right, and two single windows in a piended section on the outer right.

The north elevation has two single windows in a recessed section to the left, a bipartite window in an advanced section to the right, and a single window in a recessed section on the outer right.

The south elevation was not visible in 1999.

The cottage predominantly features 9- and 12-pane timber sash and case windows. It has a grey slate roof, which is partly piended, with coped gablehead stacks and circular cans. The stone skews and cast-iron rainwater goods are also part of its architectural details.
