Description

Broadhead Cottage is an earlier 19th century single-storey cottage with a rectangular plan and three bays, featuring later additions and alterations to the rear. The exterior is constructed from tooled rubble with droved dressings, including a base course, pilaster quoins, an eaves course, and deep overhanging eaves.

The principal elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a segmental arched doorway and window recesses with voussoirs. A timber door is centrally located, flanked by segmental arched windows in the outer bays. The northeast elevation is also symmetrical, consisting of a single bay with a central segmental arched window recess. There is a 20th century brick addition to the outer right, which includes a central window in a segmental arched recess.

The west elevation is asymmetrical and has three bays, with a two-bay 20th century brick addition on the left featuring a window in each bay. To the right, there is a tooled rubble addition with stugged dressings and a central window with a projecting cill. The south elevation is symmetrical, featuring a tripartite window in the center with blind outer panes and a projecting cill. There is a 20th century timber porch on a rubble wall to the outer left.

The cottage predominantly has 12 pane timber sash and case windows. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has lead ridges. A coped, harled central ridge stack with circular cans is present, along with cast iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 1998.
