Description

East Linksness is an early 19th century single storey and attic cottage with a symmetrical, rectangular plan and three bays. The exterior is constructed from harl-pointed rubble and features deep-set openings.

On the south elevation, there is a boarded door in the central bay, with a window in each of the flanking bays. The north elevation has a central window at ground level, and to the left of centre, there is a timber square-plan lavatory addition with a boarded door. The east side elevation includes an attic window set to the right, with a gablehead stack above.

The cottage has 4-pane timber sash and case windows on the south side, a fixed, lying-pane window on the north side, and small rooflights on the south pitch. The roof is traditionally covered with graded stone tiles, featuring a stone ridge and corniced, rubble gablehead stacks on both the east and west sides, along with cast-iron rainwater goods.

There are also ancillary buildings located to the northeast of the house, which are rectangular-plan, gabled rubble farm buildings arranged in an L-plan. The south arm has a three-bay block on the left and a two-bay block on the right. The left block has a central deep-set door with a window in each flanking bay, while the right block features a central boarded door with a square-headed doorway. The west arm has a central boarded door on the south elevation.

The roofs of the ancillary buildings include a traditional stone slab and turf roof on the east pitch of the short south arm, corrugated iron on the west pitch, and a traditional stone slab roof on the west arm. Fixed 4-pane timber-framed windows are present throughout. The interiors of both the cottage and the ancillary buildings were not seen in 1998.
