Description

Bearing date 1607, worked over earlier to mid 19th century. 2-stage, 2- by single bay, rectangular-plan dovecot adjoining courtyard wall, to SE of Press Castle. Harled; red sandstone ashlar dressings. Moulded cill and string courses to E and W respectively; corbelled eaves to E, S and W with surmounting ashlar-coped, crenellated parapets.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 2-bay. Boarded timber door at ground to right; timber panelled door to left; plaque centred above embossed with coat-of-arms and 'T A 1607'; boarded timber opening aligned at upper floor.

E (SIDE) ELEVATION: boarded timber door centred at ground; tripartite opening aligned above with timber panel of 4 pointed-arched pigeon holes in each pointed-arched ashlar opening.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: blind.

W (SIDE) ELEVATION: part-vented single window centred at ground; blind above.

Fixed 9-pane timber window to W. Corrugated-iron, mono-pitched roof set behind parapet.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999, reportedly gutted for use as store.
