Description
The Gate Lodge at Press Castle is an earlier 19th-century single-storey, three-bay Tudor-style building located to the southeast of Press Castle. It features a painted harl exterior with lightly droved sandstone dressings, a base course, and overhanging eaves supported by timber brackets. The lodge has narrow quoin strips and deeply chamfered surrounds around its openings, with hoodmoulds present throughout.
On the southeast elevation, which serves as the entrance, there is a centrally located flush-panelled timber door topped by a seven-light arcaded fanlight, with single windows on either side. The northeast elevation has a single window at its center, while the northwest rear elevation consists of two bays, each with a single window. The southwest side elevation also features a single window at its center.
The windows are timber sash and case with 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate and has deeply overhanging eaves supported by timber brackets. The rainwater goods have been replaced. The interior was not seen in 1999.
