Description

Mid 19th century, probably incorporating earlier fabric, with later additions and alterations. Symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay, rectangular-plan farmhouse with projecting porch and tripartite windows at front; 2-storey wing at rear forming near T-plan; single storey additions at rear to E and W (forming service courtyard). Principal block with rendered front and side (SW); rubble to side (NE); rubble rear additions; sandstone ashlar dressings. Base course; cill course at ground; eaves course. Plain margins to front; long and short surrounds to side and rear openings; projecting cills throughout.

SE (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: projecting, flat-roofed, corniced porch centred at ground with small-pane glazed door; plate glass fanlight. Tripartite windows with narrow side lights in corniced projections recessed to left and right of entrance; single windows in all bays at 1st floor.

NE (SIDE) ELEVATION: principal block to left with single window at ground to right. 2-storey wing recessed to right with single storey, lean-to additions to front.

SW (SIDE) ELEVATION: principal block to right with single window at ground to left. 2-storey wing recessed to left with lean-to addition in re-entrant angle to right; various additions to outer left, enclosing courtyard.

Plate glass, 8- and 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slate piended and pitched roofs. Corniced, rendered wallhead stacks to principal block; brick-built ridge stack to rear; various cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1999.

COBBLED COURTYARD: cobbled service courtyard to NW.

GARDEN WALLS: rubble walls partially enclosing site.
