South Lodge, Houndwood House

South Lodge at Houndwood House is a mid-19th century gate lodge that has undergone later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey building with a bi-axial plan and features a gabled porch located in the re-entrant angle at the front. The exterior is finished with whitewashed harl and cream sandstone dressings, while the porch is made of tooled cream sandstone. The lodge has narrow quoin strips, plain margins, and painted cills.

On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a timber panelled door set within a crowstepped porch that projects at the center. Above the door, there is a blind plaque, and a thistle-shaped finial tops the gablehead. Single windows are recessed in bays to the outer left and right.

The southeast (side) elevation features a projecting 2-light canted window at ground level, with a single window aligned above it. The northeast (rear) elevation has a west range that includes a small-pane glazed door to the right and a single window to the left. The east range has a small-pane glazed door and window to the right, along with a small window to the left.

The windows throughout the lodge are timber sash and case, with 8- and 12-pane glazing. The roof is covered in grey slate with sandstone ridging, crowstepped skews, and beak skewputts. Brick-built apex stacks are present, topped with circular terracotta cans.

The interior was not seen in 1999.
