Description

This is an early to mid-19th century farmsteading, potentially incorporating earlier fabric, with later additions and alterations. It comprises a near U-shaped steading complex arranged around a courtyard, with further additions forming a near E-shaped layout. To the east, a separate range encloses the courtyard, incorporating a cartshed and a granary. The buildings are constructed from harl-pointed sandstone and whinstone rubble, with tooled sandstone quoins and long and short surrounds to the openings, and projecting cills.

The west range has a two-storey, three-bay block in the center of its west (rear) elevation, which served as a cattle shed with a hayloft above. Boarded timber feeding doors are located at ground level in the bays flanking the center, and squat, boarded openings provide access to the loft on the first floor. Single-storey ranges are adjoined to the outer left and right sides. The east (courtyard) elevation features gabled projections on the south and north ranges, and a single-storey, piended projection in the center.

The south range is set on a sloping site. Its north (courtyard) elevation contains boarded timber doors at ground level and two boarded timber openings on the first floor, offset to the left of centre. The south (rear) elevation has three linked, piended projections to the left, featuring large, sliding doors offset to the left (cattle sheds) with overlapping ventilation slates. A separate piended projection, formerly a power house, is situated to the right, with a later addition to the front and remains of a square-plan stalk to the right. An adjoining barn, recessed to the right, has an external staircase leading to a boarded timber door that breaks the eaves, offset to the left.

The north range’s south (courtyard) elevation has a boarded timber door offset to the left of centre, and a single window at ground level to the left. Various projections are located to the outer left. The north (rear) elevation includes a boarded timber door offset to the right of centre and a small window at ground level, offset to the left. The east (side) elevation has a gable end with a boarded timber door at ground level, offset to the left, and a boarded timber opening centered in the gablehead.

The east range’s west (courtyard) elevation features a two-storey, four-bay cartshed and granary in the center, with arched cart openings at ground level and corresponding windows above. A forestair provides access to the upper floor on the outer right. A single-storey range is recessed to the left, with boarded timber doors in two bays to the right of centre. A large, two-leaf door is located to the outer left. Another single-storey range is recessed to the right, with two boarded timber doors offset to the left of centre. The east (rear) elevation has a single-storey, three-bay lean-to projection adjoining the cartshed, a single window in the single-storey range on the outer right, and a substantial lean-to addition, incorporating an implement shed, on the outer left.

The windows are predominantly small-pane timber sash windows; various rooflights are present. The roofs are predominantly grey slate, with some corrugated-iron sections. Stone-coped skews are also present. The interior was not inspected in 1999. A cobbled yard is partially preserved.
