Description
The Walled Garden at Press Castle dates from the earlier to mid 19th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a near rectangular plan, measuring approximately 2,000 square meters, located to the south of Press Castle. The garden is enclosed by tall rubble sandstone walls that are heavily pointed, although some sections are missing or broken. The walls have red sandstone dressings and some openings are framed with red brick. At the northeast and northwest corners, there are engaged rectangular piers with tooled sandstone quoins. The northwest pier is topped with a sandstone urn, and there is a pointed-arched traceried fragment on the wall beside it. Inside the garden, there is a sundial with an octagonal-plan, panelled shaft beneath a square block. The sundial features weathered inscriptions, although the metal gnomons are missing.
