Description
The Boat House at Coldingham Loch dates from the later part of the 19th century and features later additions and alterations. It is a single-storey building with a basement, designed in a rectangular plan, and includes a flat-roofed addition at the rear. The exterior is harled with sandstone ashlar dressings, featuring a base course and overhanging timber bracketed eaves that have ball-shaped pendants at the front. The building has narrow quoin strips, stop-chamfered surrounds to its openings, and projecting cills.
On the southwest (entrance) elevation, there is a large, segmental-arched boat opening centered at the basement level, with a segmental-arched opening above that contains a two-leaf, part-glazed timber door. Above this, a full-width iron viewing balcony is supported by decorative brackets, tapering pendants, and decorative uprights.
The northwest (side) elevation features a principal two-bay block on the right with an exterior stair leading to a boarded timber door on the left. Above this, there is a finialled gable that breaks the eaves, adorned with decorative bargeboards. A boarded timber door is located at the basement on the right, aligned with a bipartite window above. To the left, there is a two-bay, flat-roofed block with a squat window on the right and a single window on the left.
The northeast (rear) elevation shows a gable end with a flat-roofed projection at the front. The southeast (side) elevation has the principal block with a single window at ground level, offset to the right of center, and a single window in the flat-roofed addition on the outer right.
The original block features plate glass timber sash and case windows, while the later addition has modern windows. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods. A sandstone stack with brick repairs is located on the southeast side, topped with a single can.
The interior was not seen in 1999.
